The state of Texas is considering a number of options to make up for revenue lost due to higher fuel efficiency vehicles. One proposal being discussed is a Vehile Mileage Tax (VMT) which would tax car owners based on the number of miles they drive and eliminate the tax on fuel they purchase. The calcutalor below shows the difference between the current system and the proposed system.

The default VMT rate is set at 1.2 cents per mile. You can adjust it to see how a different rate will change the impact on you.
